Join me for another project from the shed as I change out the disc brake pads on my Telwater boat trailer. I put together this little video as a bit of a "how to" guide for those out there that have never done it or are not so mechanically minded however would still like to save a few $$$$. No need for any expensive specialist tools, you can easily do this yourself at home with just a few spanners, wheel brace and jack. Please Note: Although the use of asbestos in brake pads in Australia is banned take proper safety precautions when working around the dust generated by disc brake material; wet down the area if you are concerned and dispose of any residue in sealed plastic bags. Remember that aftermarket parts can come from anywhere in the world and regulations governing manufacturing in 'those' parts of the world are often weak at best.

Changing brake pads on a 2018 Trailstar bass boat trailer.
Today we are going to replace the brake pads on my Venture marine trailer. After just 2 years, one of the pads has completely fallen off the backing plate due to rust. This trailer is exclusively used in salt water but is thoroughly hosed down after every trip. They are being replaced with upgraded Kodiak 225 stainless steel backing plate pads, part number: K225CPSS The full flush of the brake fluid is also in order. This trailer has a Dexter DX7.5 Surge Actuator that uses DOT 3 as per the manual. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the replacement brake pads for your Titan or UFP 10 inch DB42 series disc brake assemblies. And this is for a quantity of four pads. Now these brake pads will replace the pads that are on one axle or two of your Titan or UFP 10 inch DB42 series disc brake assemblies. The brake pads are what'll apply the pressure to your rotors to slow or stop your trailer's wheels. These are a semi-metallic material, so they do resist heat damage and perform well in cold weather. And as you can see, the pads themselves are bonded to the backing plates. And again, this is for four brake pads that'll outfit two disparate calipers, but that should do it for the review on the replacement brake pads for the Titan or UFP 10 inch DB42 series disc brake assemblies..

The bushes in the sliders of my trailer's disc brake calipers were worn which allowed the caliper body to rub on the edge of the disc. In this video, I show the replacement of both disc calipers.

This is Part-2 of the Vault DB-35 hybrid lubrication hub repair on a 2018 Z520L RangerTrail. The new hub arrived and is installed in real time in about 15 minutes. The new caliper is removed from the new hub. In part-1, the original caliper is removed from the damaged hub and set aside to be installed onto the new part. The video is in real time and takes about 15 minutes to install onto the trailer which is then ready for the tire and rim to be installed.

This quick segment explains how a boat’s trailer brakes work and why they are completely separate from the vehicle. A boat trailer uses surge brakes, which are when the truck that is pulling the boat hits the brakes, a piston moves inside the tongue of the trailer and pushes fluid down and squeezes the calipers on the brakes which makes the boat stop. Boat trailers often have special non-metalic type pistons fitted to the brake calipers. The primary reason isn't to try and reduce failure due to corrosion, however, these pistons come with their own set of problems. Binding brakes on boat trailers is a common problem here in New Zealand and although I have already made a handful of videos showing how to strip down, inspect and rebuild hydraulic calipers when the chance came along to cover the specifics of this alternative design I jumped at the chance... So, here you go, a comprehensive video showing you how to strip down, inspect, rebuild and bench test boat trailer type hydraulic brake calipers. This job didn't go too smoothly and this pair of calipers had a range of faults, some I predicted, others I only discovered during the final bench test! Part-1 of 2 on how to remove and replace the RangerTrail oil-bath maintenance-free Vault DB-35 hub on a 2018 RangerTrail Z520L. The caliper brake was unbolted from the hub and set aside to prevent having to bleed the brakes. Trick in saving time is there was no reason to remove the caliper. In Part-2, the new hub arrives and is installed using the existing caliper.
